Open at seven, roast on Sunday, and there on the days that count
The doors open at 7am, seven days a week. For locals it is the first flat white of the morning; for travellers heading up the coast to Abel Tasman, a proper breakfast before the drive into the park: a big breakfast, eggs benedict, or a bacon butty for the road.
Sunday means a roast, done the traditional way, from 11.30 to 1.30. It is a standing fixture rather than a special, the kind of meal you can plan the week around.
Portions are generous and the prices are fair. A seafood plate, fish and chips, hot scones from the cabinet. Coops stays open through the public holidays when most of High Street is shut, and Mr Coop runs the place the way a local should be run: he goes out of his way, and people come back for it.
